Publicat el 2005 Identity Fraud Survey Report on es reflecteix un considerable augment en els atacs de suplantació de la identitat, que afecten especialment al «món real».
El 72% dels fraus que comporten una suplantació d'identitat tenen lloc al «món real». El volum total dels fraus va pujar fins als 52.600 milions de dòlars l'any passat, només als Estats Units. A Internet, els fraus de suplantació només representen un 12% del total.
Computer crimes accounted for just 11.6 percent of all known-cause identity fraud in 2004; and half of these digitally-driven crimes stem from spyware, software the computer user unknowingly installs to make ads pop-up when the consumer is online. Consumers can protect their financial data by using updated spyware, virus and firewall protection software and not responding to bogus «phishing» emails that request personal data."

[Silicon.com] Netscape 8 adds anti-phishing features. Està prevista la publicació el proper mes d'una versió de prova del Netscape 8 que inclourà mecanismes per evitar els atacs phishing:
Netscape is in negotiations with various security companies to supply the Netscape 8 beta with frequently updated blacklists of websites that are suspected of purveying spyware, phishing schemes and other hostile code. When someone accesses such a site using Netscape 8, the browser would flash warnings to the user and disable various technologies with security implications, including ActiveX, scripting and cookies.

[F-Secure Weblog] Disinfection tool for SymbOS/Locknut.A (Gavno.A and Gavno.B) published. Es tracta d'una utilitat pels usuaris de telèfons mòbil basats en el sistema operatiu Symbian que permet detectar la presència del troià Locknut.A i, cas de trobar-lo, l'esborra.
Locknut.A is a Symbian SIS file trojan, that replaces critical system binary, causing the phone to lock down so that no applications can be used. This locking is quite similar to the one caused by Skulls variants, but more complete.
Locknut.A is also claimed to prevent user from calling with the phone, but we could not observe such behavior. All the phones we infected with Locknut.A were able to call just fine, all smartphone features were disabled, but calling works fine.
