Arran d'una història publicada al weblog de Miguel de Icaza he descobert aquesta eina que promet ser un autèntic diamant per situacions de crisi:
Gpart is a tool which tries to guess the primary partition table of a PC-type hard disk in case the primary partition table in sector 0 is damaged, incorrect or deleted. The guessed table can be written to a file or device.
És a dir, permet identificar les particions existents al disc dur quan la taula de particions ha estat destruïda.

The Internet is under attack. More precisely, one particular way of using it is under threat: the decentralised, peer-to-peer (P2P) approach.
One piece of US legislation aimed at taming the rough vigour of P2P networks is called dramatically the “Protecting Children from Peer-to-Peer Pornography Act of 2003.” As its name implies, it views P2P as a sink of iniquity whose poisons threaten America's innocent youth. The P2P industry organisation P2P United naturally sees things differently, and suggests taking another approach to deal with the problem.

[TheFeature] DoCoMo Wi-fi Phone Shows Carriers' Hand explica com la companyia telefònica japonesa NTT DoCoMo ha anunciat la disponibilitat d'un telèfon amb capacitat d'accés a les xarxes 3G (UMTS) i Wi-Fi (802.11)... però la capacitat Wi-Fi només es podrà utilitzar com a extensió d'una centraleta i amb una aplicació de missatgeria instantània, no pas per utilitzar els punts d'accés Wi-Fi que es podem trobar per tot arreu... no sigui cas que el negoci de les telefòniques se'n vagi en orris.

[InformationWeek] Evaluating Windows XP Service Pack 2 RC2
Remember when Microsoft said service packs wouldn't deliver any new functionality? That lasted for about six months back in 1997. Windows XP Service Pack 2 is jammed-packed with both invisible and visible improvements to Windows XP. The biggest boon is that the free update, which will probably ship some time in September, does in fact make Windows XP far more secure. Many of the other user interface bits are aimed more at protecting Microsoft.
