[News.com] Asleep at the wheel? és un excel·lent article sobre la situació del món de la seguretat informàtica. L'auto-confiança i alguns pocs sistemes de protecció no poden fer front a totes les demandes de seguretat.
Modern hacks aren't quite so obvious. Remember the old "Three Stooges" skits when the boys would knock out some guards, dress up in their uniforms and then skip freely past a watchman? That's kind of how it works.
Hackers look for a place with a lot of traffic; a university or an Internet service provider network with many unaffiliated users is perfect. The hacker compromises every system in this high-traffic network by attacking well-known vulnerabilities. This brings in the booty: PCs with virtual private network (VPN) connections to corporate networks. Don't look now, but Larry, Curly and Moe have taken out your security staff and are about to come through the door!
With a VPN connection at hand, the hacker simply enters the network, compromises one internal system after another--and then steals your customer information, credit card numbers or source code. Worst of all, you have no idea that anything is wrong until the barrage of phone calls comes in from irate customers, banks and business partners. Better pour some coffee and call your attorneys; it's going to be a long night.

Una característica de Windows Server 2003, que ràpidament es converteix en una prestació odiosa, és que en la configuració per defecte t'obliga a escriure el motiu pel qual fas un shutdown.
Cansat de ficar motius del tipus «aaaa» o «em dóna la gana», que no és el que es pot esperar un professional... :-) he acudit a la meva font de resolució de problemes (Google) per mirar com desactivar això.
Hi ha dues formes. La primera és editant el registre HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\
Windows NT\Reliability
És possible que calgui crear la clau Reliability. Cal editar-lo per tal que el contingut sigui: Tipus: DWORD
Nom valor: ShutdownReasonOn
Valor: 0
L'altra sistema és utilitzar la política de grup:
- Entrar a l'editor de polítiques (Executar gpedit.msc)
- Expandir Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System
- Fer doble clic damunt de Display Shtutdown Event Tracker
- Marcar l'opció Disabled i OK.
- Tancar l'editor de polítiques
Per cert, aquest registre de les aturades també es pot activar a Windows XP modificant el valor indicat anteriorment del registre per tal que sigui 1.
